Congenital Cystic Dilatation of the Common Duct



Abstract
A Case of choledochal cyst in a 31 year old female was experienced in Dept. of Surgery, St. Paul¢¥s Hospital, Catholic Medical Center.
The symptomatic triad of choledochal cyst such as intermittent epigastric pain, jaundice and palpable mass had noted.
Upper G-I series revealed post bulbal dilatation due to suspicious adhesion at the second portion of duodenum. Liver function test revealed that of the definitive evidence of obstructive jaundice. Recently she had also experienced clay colored stool.
On exploration, a large cystic mass was noted at the region of supraduodenal portion of common duct without dilatation of gall bladder, cystic duct and hepatic duct.
The cystic mass contained about 900cc of bile-stained fluid with numerous sandy stones or gravels.
Choledochojejunostomy with Roux-en-Y type anastomosis was performed successfully.
Postoperative course was smooth except the signs of mild incomplete intestinal obstruction on two weeks after the operation and could be discharged on 22nd hospital day uneventfully.
